
Datuk Wira Johan Rozali-Wathooth

Datuk Wira Johan Rozali-Wathooth started his career 25 years ago in London in the corporate restructuring field before transitioning into alternative investments. Prior to his return to Malaysia, he served leading global private equity and special situation alternative investment firms whilst based in the UK.
In 2018 Johan founded Bintang Capital Partners Berhad (Bintang) an award-winning Southeast Asian impact investment firm. Johan concurrently serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Bintang, as well as its major shareholder.
In addition to his role at Bintang, Johan also serves as Independent Non-Executive Chairman of TMK Chemical Berhad (a leading Southeast Asian end-to-end chemical product manufacturer and distributor), Independent Non-Executive Chairman of Wise Payments Malaysia Sdn Bhd (the wholly owned Malaysian subsidiary of Wise PLC), as well as Non-Executive Director of Active Force Security Services Sdn Bhd (a leading Malaysian private security solutions provider).
Apart from his corporate interests, Johan is also a passionate advocate of impact causes: he serves on various boards and committees of leading Malaysian non-profit organisations oriented around a diverse range of impact areas including public health, education and youth empowerment. He serves as Trustee & Chair of the Administrative Committee of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation (YTAR), a leading education funder founded in 1966 to catalyse higher education opportunities for youth from under-privileged and under-represented communities. The Foundation is a statutory body under the purview of the Ministry of National Unity of Malaysia. Johan was appointed YTAR Trustee by YB Minister of Education of Malaysia in 2018. Johan also serves as Trustee & Chair of the Audit & Governance Committee of Impact Integrated (Impact), a catalyst agency formed as a Company Limited by Guarantee under the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Malaysia aimed at creating opportunities for youth through esports and media. Johan was appointed Impact Trustee by YB Minister of Youth and Sports of Malaysia in 2023.
Johan joined the Malaysian Leprosy Relief Association (MaLRA) as an ordinary member in 2010. He has spearheaded MaLRA’s efforts to collaborate closely with the Ministry of Health of Malaysia in executing its mandate. Johan joined MaLRA in 2010 and was elected as member of its Executive Committee the same year, prior to being subsequently elected Honorary Treasurer in 2012.
Johan holds a Bachelor of Science (with Honours) in Economics from the London School of Economics, which he attended as a UK Government Chevening Commonwealth Scholar. He is also a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales (ICAEW) and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder. Additionally, Johan holds the CFA Institute Sustainable Investing Certificate as well as the CFA Society UK Impact Investing Certificate.
In recognition of Johan’s services and contributions to Malaysia, Johan was conferred with the honour Darjah Cemerlang Seri Melaka (Knight Commander of the Exalted Order of Malacca – D.C.S.M.) by the State of Malacca which carries the title “Datuk Wira” on the occasion of the 76th birthday of His Excellency the Governor of Malacca Tun Seri Setia Mohd. Ali Mohd. Rustam in 2025.
