Dr. Muthukumar Govindaraj

Dr. Muthukumar Govindaraj was born and raised in Penang, and continues to reside there where he serves the community as an accomplished academic and dedicated community leader with decades of experience in education, training and humanitarian work. He presently serves as an Associate Professor at Spectrum University College, and is also an accredited HRDF trainer who specialises in the areas of human capital and leadership development.

Dr. Muthukumar holds an MBA and PhD from Herriott-Watt University, Edinburgh, United Kingdom.

Other than his roles in academia, Dr. Muthukumar plays an active leadership role in community and socioeconomic organisations. He is the Chairman of Persatuan Pembangunan Ekonomi India Pulau Pinang (PERUMI) and serves as the Assistant Secretary of Arulmigu Kamatchi AmmanTemple, Penang.

His association with the Malaysian Leprosy Relief Association (MaLRA) began in 1998 when he joined as a member of the Penang Branch. Over the years, he has previously held key positions in the Penang Branch as its Treasurer and Secretary, and presently serves as the Branch Chairman. At the national level, he has been an Executive Committee Member of MaLRA Malaysia since 2020, later serving as its Assistant Treasurer, and presently as MaLRA’s Deputy President.

In recognition of his longstanding contributions to the areas of humanitarian, educational, and community services, he has been conferred with several state honours by His Excellency the Governor of Penang including Darjah Johan Negeri (Member of the Order of the Defender of State, D.J.N.), Pingat Kelakuan Terpuji (Distinguished Conduct Medal, P.K.T.) and Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (Meritorious Service Medal, P.J.K.).
