
Mr. Ku Fui Men

Mr. Ku Fui Men (fondly known as Mr. Ku) was born on the 4th of June 1949 in China, and moved with his parents to North Borneo (now known as Sabah) in 1951. He received his early education in Beaufort, Kota Kinabalu (formerly Jesselton) and Tuaran. In 1970 he started his career with the Government Health Department, where he specialised in treating leprosy and tuberculosis until his retirement in 2005. Throughout his career and continuing into his retirement, Mr. Ku has been actively involved in numerous non-profit initiatives across Sabah, dedicating himself to improve the lives of underprivileged communities whilst championing issues such as public health, social welfare and the empowerment of vulnerable communities. His approach of combining local engagement in Sabah with international best practices to maximise impact has been widely recognised.
Mr. Ku has contributed significantly to several organisations. He was an Ordinary Member of the Sabah Anti-Tuberculosis Association (SABATA) in 1970, eventually rising to the office of Chairman in 2001. He is also the Founder and Chairman of PUSAT “Agape”, an organisation dedicated to supporting children with special needs.
In 1996, Mr. Ku co-founded the Malaysian Leprosy Relief Association’s (MaLRA) Sabah branch, and has served as the state’s Chairman since. He also established the Special Olympics Sandakan in 1997, taking on the role of Chairman. Mr. Ku has been actively involved with Persatuan Perkhidmatan Taska Sabah (PPTS) since 1997, serving as Planner, Coach and Member. Mr. Ku has also been an Ordinary Member of Lembaga Pelawat Rumah Tangga Tua Sri Harapan Sabah since 1998. In 2009, he co-founded and became Chairman of Persatuan Kesihatan Jiwa Sabah.
In addition to his organisational work, Mr. Ku has also participated in numerous seminars, training events and conferences both in Malaysia and internationally to advance knowledge and awareness about less fortunate communities. In 1983 he took part in a Community Health Promotion programme in Indonesia, and between 1997-2007 he participated in Kursus Asas Asuhan Kanak-Kanak and continued to serve as a trainer and coordinator. In 1998, he attended training in Social Welfare Work in Germany, followed by Special Olympics Fundraising Training in Australia in 2001. In 2002 and 2007, he participated in programmes on the protection of children’s rights in the Philippines and attended conferences on poverty, HIV/AIDS and violence in South Africa. He also attended the World Conference on Leprosy in Brazil.
