Mr. Tan Yi Ming

Mr. Tan Yi Ming has served as the Secretary General of the Malaysian Leprosy Relief Association since 2022 and has also continuously served as Chairman of the Selangor Branch since 2013.
As the grandson of the Association’s founder of the Malaysian Leprosy Relief Association, the late YB Senator Tan Sri Dato’ Tahir TH Tan, and the son of the previous President, YBhg. Datuk Roger Tan (2010-2012), Mr. Tan represents the third generation of the Tan family to serve within the leadership of the Malaysian Leprosy Relief Association.
Inspired by his family’s long-established tradition of public service, philanthropy and volunteerism, Mr. Tan is deeply committed to advancing MALRA’s mission of eliminating leprosy from Malaysia. Following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps, his vision is to transform the narrative of leprosy patients from being perpetual recipients of financial aid into valued, contributing and dignified members of society.
As Secretary General, Mr. Tan has led efforts to bring young members into the Association as well as fostering new partnerships with other bodies and agencies to fight the scourge of leprosy. In this role, he also administers MALRA’s nationwide relief programmes which extend beyond financial assistance to include incentives for treatment adherence and customised case-bycase support. This innovative, holistic
and comprehensive approach promotes sustained recovery and enhances patient outcomes across Malaysia.
As Secretary General, Mr. Tan also spearheaded the formalisation of collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Malaysia, as part of his relentless focus on integrating leprosy awareness into the national public health agenda.
Mr. Tan’s role as Chairman of the Association’s Selangor Branch gives him oversight over the Sungai Buloh leprosy community, the largest and oldest remaining leprosy community in Malaysia. During his tenure as Chairman of Selangor Branch, Mr. Tan pioneered new programmes such as monthly social engagement events including festive celebrations, field trips and birthday celebrations for patients - all of which are aimed at enriching and dignifying their lives whilst removing the stigma of leprosy.
Mr. Tan is a graduate of the University of Melbourne and started his career in 2007 at GuocoLand (M) Berhad, the property division of the Hong Leong Group of Malaysia, and has gained extensive professional experience derived from two decades of service within the property development, food and beverage as well as technology sectors. He presently is Head of IRIS Corporation Berhad’s Domestic Sales and Special Projects team.
