Tuan Haji Mohamad Redza Ramadas

Tuan Haji Mohamad Redza Ramadas (known as Haji Redza) served with the Dermatology Department of Sultanah Aminah Hospital, Johor Bahru (HSAJB) until his retirement in 2008. Prior to his retirement, Haji Redza was also the Supervisor of the Tampoi Leprosarium in Johor Bahru. It was during this posting when he joined the Malaysian Leprosy Relief Association’s (MaLRA) Johor Branch as a member in 1997.
During his time at the Tampoi Leprosarium, Haji Redza was responsible for over 70 leprosy patients and their families comprised of those who had been admitted primarily between the 1950s-1970s, as well as a further 30 patients who lived outside the Settlement Area in the State of Johor.
When the Leprosarium was closed to further admissions in 1982, treatment activities were taken over by the Dermatology Department of HSAJB where Haji Redza was appointed Senior Medical Assistant, playing a dual role as clinical staff and Settlement Supervisor.
During his tenure as custodian for the patients at the Leprosarium and its surrounding areas, Haji Redza was instrumental in the regular provision of food and rations, living provisions, clothing, prosthetics, eyeglasses, dentures and other critical supplies to patients and their families. He also initiated festive season celebrations during major festivities such as Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and Christmas so that patients were able to enjoy the holidays with their loved ones.
In 1999, two years after joining MaLRA , Haji Redza initiated World Leprosy Day celebrations in conjunction with the Johor State Health Department – these celebrations were rotated throughout all the districts of Johor State until 2011 to bring greater awareness of the disease to the people of Johor State.
Haji Redza was elected Deputy Chairman of MaLRA Johor in 2008, and was elected Chairman in 2024 by the Johor Branch.
